Money is personal. Every family has different goals, concerns, and aspirations. Simon believes investment management should reflect that reality. His approach combines disciplined portfolio management with thoughtful financial planning, helping clients make confident financial decisions through every stage of life. Whether preparing for retirement, navigating major life transitions, or building a lasting legacy, Simon’s goal is to provide clarity, confidence, and peace of mind.
As President and Portfolio Manager at YouFirst Financial, Simon works closely with individuals and families to develop personalized investment strategies tailored to their unique financial circumstances and long-term objectives. As a discretionary Portfolio Manager, he is responsible for making day-to-day investment decisions on behalf of his clients, allowing them to focus on what matters most while knowing their portfolios are being managed with discipline, independence, and care.
Simon believes successful wealth management extends well beyond investment returns. His advice integrates retirement planning, tax-efficient investing, estate planning considerations, and risk management into a comprehensive financial strategy designed around each client’s life, not simply their portfolio. Above all, he believes the best advice begins with listening. By taking the time to truly understand his clients, their families, and what they hope to achieve, Simon builds long-term relationships founded on trust, transparency, and aligned interests.
Before becoming President of YouFirst Financial, Simon served as an Investment Analyst and Associate Portfolio Manager, helping shape the firm’s investment philosophy and portfolio construction process. His experience spans global equities, fixed income, alternative investments, and real assets, providing a broad perspective across market cycles and economic environments.
Prior to entering wealth management, Simon spent more than six years in the oil and gas industry, working in process engineering, engineering management, and project management in Calgary, Alberta, and Saint John, New Brunswick. His engineering background continues to influence the way he approaches investing, bringing a disciplined, analytical mindset to complex financial decisions while remaining focused on practical, long-term outcomes.
Simon is registered with the Ontario Securities Commission as a Portfolio Manager and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. He is also a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) and has completed the Partners, Directors and Senior Officers (PDO) Course. He is an active member of the CFA Institute, CFA Society Toronto, and the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).
Simon graduated from Queen’s University with First-Class Honours in Chemical Engineering.
